Iodine recovery from gas mixtures - by reduction of elemental iodine to ammonium iodide and quenching with water

Gas mixture, pref. resulting from the burning of alkyl iodides in an oxide hydrogenation process and contg. iodine vapour and a 10-20 fold molar excess of NH3 as a reducing agent (and opt. a 10-20 fold molar excess of O2 w.r.t. iodine) is heated at 300-1000 degrees C. and then quenched with water at 70 degrees C.
