End winding spacer block for free coil ends - consists of wedge shaped resin filled felt wraps with rigid centre-piece and additional felt insert

To secure the spacing between the end windings of coil or bar windings wedge shaped blocks are proposed. These are made by winding a strip of resin loaded felt (1) round a rigid centre piece (2), with an additional loaded felt insert (4) to give the required shape. The rigid centre is typically a hard laminate with a woven material base. - The wedges are fitted uncured to the insulated end windings and can thus conform to the shape between coils (3). The subsequent curing process helps to bond the parts together as well as giving a rigid structure. The method of weding is applicable both to stator and rotor windings.
