The ampoule filling and sealing machine has a conveyor (10) which steps the ampoules (15, 16, 17) past a flame (18) which opens the bulbous top. At the next position, a tube (21) injects gas into the opened top (20). This tube is connected to the gas supply tube (24) by a flow measuring instrument (25). - This instrument is a suspended body flowmeter with a photo electric sensing head (27) which registers a faulty opening of an ampoule. When a fault is detected, a device is operated which stops the machine and ejects the faulty ampoule. When stopped, the ampoules are located between burner flames. A device is fitted to remove glass which becomes attached to the gas injection needle.
