Concrete set accelerator, which simultaneously exerts a plasticising and corrosion-inhibiting effect, consists of Ca(NO2)2 and/or NaNO2, opt. 30 wt.% CaCl2 (wrt. wt. of active ingredients) and triethanolamine, and is present as an aq. soln. or mixt. of the salts, opt. contg. water of crystallisation, contg. =5 wt.% triethanolamine (wrt. total salt wt.) as the Ca(NO2)2-triethanolamine complex. Building industry. Reduction of make-up water needed, raised strength and cement economy. Compsn. may be used as an aq. soln. contg. =50 wt.% active ingredient, pref. set to pH 8.5 with triethanolamine. Triethanolamine is added to an aq. soln. contg. Ca(NO2)2 and/or NaNO2, and opt. CaCl2, to pH 8.5. Soln. is then stirred, esp. at 40 degrees C, and opt. converted to a dry powdery prod., opt. contg. water of crystallisation, by evaporation in vacuo or by atomising.
