Galvanic prim. element with alkaline electrolyte, negative Zn electrode and positive MnO2 electrode has a positive electrode plate consisting of expanded Ni metal coated with or covered with a film of a binder and a conductor onto which MnO2 (pref. contg. 10-30 wt. % graphite and up to 5 wt.% binder, e.g. a CH2:CCl2 copolymer) is pressed. The binder can be polyurethane, polypropylene, PTFE or esp. polyisobutylene and the conductor metal (Ni or Cu) flake or esp. graphite. The cell has a stable potential at high current load and a mass utilisation of over 50%. the coating is elastic, protects the expanded Ni from oxidn. and ensures satisfactory contact between the support and the active compsn.
