The body of the pipe cutter has an axial bore for the pipe which is to be cut, and a radial guide slit, in which the cutting tool is mounted. A cover ring connected to the body by bolts closes off the front of the cutter. A coaxially arranged guide ring is located in a circular recess of the cover ring and has an outward extending cam which fits into a slit in the cutting tool. The feed mechanism sits in a bore of the cover ring and comprises an eccentric, via whose shaft a sleeve is displaced on whose mantel surface is a unit which releases the connection to the eccentric, when the cam-shaped lever is moved back to its starting position by a spring, after its swivelling motion. In this way a moment of rotation can only be transmitted in one direction.
