摘要
The Parent Patent describes a stabiliser for high-speed rotors, e.g. centrifuges, spinning machine spindles, or revolving wheels in satellites, in which =1 bearing is a magnetic bearing without any contact with the surroundings. The stabiliser consists of a damping system revolving together with the rotor and without contact with the surroundings, and in particular of a damping ring revolving with the rotor and connected to it elastically by wire or spring systems, so that it can execute relative movement to the rotor (transversely and optionally also longitudinally), these movements being damped hydraulically, pneumatically or by eddy currents. In this addn. the damping ring is also capable of executing movements relative to the rotor which are rotational movements about its axis. As in the Parent Patent, a positive damping effect is obtained by the mechanical connection of the damping ring to the rotor, and the damping does not rely merely upon magnetic forces, which are normally inadequate. The addn. provides the additional advantage of permitting very high damping at low rotor speeds, where both the rotor and also the damping system may have a resonance frequency giving rise to vibrations quite different from those at high speeds. At higher speeds, the damping coefft. is again reduced to its lower value as in the Parent Patent. The apparatus is thus partic. suitable for ultra high speed or supercritical centrifuges.
