The earthing terminal consists of a C-clamp fitted with a clamping bridge to hold the terminal to the earth rail and to the conductor requiring earthing. The bridge is driven down onto the conductor by a screw so that the conductor and rail are clamped together. The screw passes through a C-shaped loop whose one arm is extended up and over the head of the screw. A hole in this extension gives access to the head of the screw. The extreme end of the extension has a coded tag connected to it giving details of the connection.
