The frame is for use with machines resting directly on the ground when operating, and supported on it via a lifting mechanism when travelling. It is in the form of a bogie (24) detachably coupled to the machine frame (10) so that it can be completely removed when the machine is working. The machine frame can have a portal-type sub-frame of cross-section large enough to accommodate the bogie and bearings to accommodate a supporting spindle (41) inserted from the side and through the bogie frame, together with a jacking surface for use with a lifting ram (44) coupled to the latter, and which can be attached direct to it. Alternatively the ram can act on a rocking beam (38) pivoting on a spindle and linked to the bogie frame by a further spindle (36) at a distance from the supporting spindle.
