Industrial waste water contng. perchlorates and chlorates is purified by mixing the industrial water with domestic/municipal waste water, reducing the (per)chlorates under anaerobic conditions with a species of the microorganism Vibrio dechloraticans Cuznesove B-1168, and separating the purified water. Gives good removal of toxic (per)chlorates from industrial waste waters.
