The cable transmission system (2) is connected by a cable (4) to the aerial socket of an ordinary commercial television set and a second cable (5) connects the system (2) with the power input socket of the set (1). The television aerial (3) is connected to the transmission system (2) which may be switched to give ordinary commercial television reception. A single cable (6) links the system (2) with a modern device (7), which may permit transmission of the computer data via the public telephone system. The signal fed into the television set through the aerial cable (4) is modulated onto a carrier wave of a given frequency.
