1486805 Tubular heat exchangers SOC ANON DES USINES CHAUSSON 20 Nov 1974 [12 Dec 1973] 50381/74 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger assembly bounded at opposite sides by lateral plates 8 and comprising a plurality of tubes 1 extending between end plates 3 each formed with a continuous peripheral groove 4 receiving a gasket 5 and the flanged edge 6 of a moulded header box 7, the outer wall 10 of the peripheral groove 4 at the two shorter sides of each end plate 3 is extended upwardly by flange portions 10a each of which is flat over a substantial width so that lugs 11 at the ends of the lateral plates 8 can be secured thereto at two spaced apart points 16 by welding, staples or rivets to prevent rotation of the end plate 3 with respect to the lateral plates 8. Each flange portion 10a is connected to the outer wall 10 of the groove 4 through curved portions 10 1 , 10 2 the radius of curvature r of which is smaller than that of the comers R interconnecting the long and short sides 4 1 and 4 2 of the end plate 3. Tongues 13 and 15 provided on the outermost edges of the long and short sides of the plate 3 are bent inwardly to bear on the upper surface 6a of the flange portion 6 of the header box 7 to ensure that the sealing gasket 5 is kept under compression. Corrugated fin strips 9 are located between the tubes 1. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) the flange portions 10a at the shorter sides of each tube plate are cut at (17) to provide a tongue (13 1 ) adapted to be folded over to bear against part of the header box flange and so keep the gasket (5) in compression.
