The screen transfer printing process uses both heat and press. to apply a layer onto the surface to be printed. A screen 5) has openings (6) through which the layer is passed. The printing or stamping unit comprises, for example a flat, heated upper stamp (1) and a lower stamp (3) on which rests the material to be printed on (4). The screen (5) made of resistance material is positioned above the printing surface (4) and has an ink film (7) on a carrier base (8) located between it and the upper stamp. In operation the upper stamp is lowered and forces the ink film through the screen openings onto the surface below.
