The artificial release of avalanches for safety purposes, involves heating the snow in well-defined areas. In these areas the snow level is measured, and the snow (7) is compacted by the heating process. When predetermined measurements have been attained the snow is thrown into vibration. This motion may be introduced into the ground (6) and thence transmitted to the snow. An adjustable table can be used, linked to an oscillation generator (5) and control unit, the latter being connected to a measuring device. The table can be mounted on rubber blocks (3) or other elastic supports.
