Double glazing using glass or plastic tubes as spacers - so thermal insulation is improved round the edges of the glazing

Insulation glazing, using =2 glass panes sepd. by a spacer to form a sealed cavity. The spacer consists of a glass tube contg. a desiccant and provided with a row of holes leading to the cavity. The glass tube may have a round or square cross-section and be melted onto the panes or attached via an adhesive. A rail, esp. a plastic rail, may be placed outside the tube to avoid shock at the edge of the glazing. The glass tube may be made of plastic, esp. a square plastic tube which has an outer glass rail followed by a rail for shock protection; the glass rail may be welded to the panes or located via adhesive. A damp exclusion barrier, esp. a metal foil may be used on the outside of the plastic tube, but instead of the metal foil a layer of metal may be deposited onto the tube by evapn.
