The drill or boring tool (2) is mounted in a sleeve (4) in which it can be moved axially, to adjust the length of the drill. A clamp (5) is mounted in the sleeve and is used to clamp the drill in the position required, by means of a screw acting against a face (10) of the clamp. For improved clamping, the clamp can have a step on its rear face with which it is hooked in the hole in sleeve (4). A screw (6) is used to push the clamp inward so that it hinges about the step and is pushed with a protrusion (20) against the tool to be clamped. For non-cylindrical shafts, the clamp is shaped to suit the shaft.
