The measuring method is for attenuation in light conductors used in information transfer. It involves comparison of the energy in the conductor before and after transmission through it. The method is suitable for use with optical fibres in the u.v, visible, and i.r regions. It enables application of the transmitter, receiver and evaluation units to a single conductor end which may be in a cable already laid. A light pulse is transmitted along the conductor and reflected back from the far end. The transmitted and reflected received pulses are compared and evaluated.
