A measurement head for density measurement, e.g. in metal roller mechanisms for rubber or paper, has an ionisation chamber for radioactive radiation reception and electronic evaluation circuitry. It comprises a rectangular cross-section housing with water cooling. The design has greater flexibility than conventional water jackets or cooling coils. The housing side walls are made of good thermally conducting material. Outer flat cooling elements may be screwed to the walls. The elements contain water channels and may be removed for cleaning or to enable the head to be operated without cooling where necessary.
