The cross country ski has a profiled running surface with a central guide groove extending in the longitudinal ski direction. Curved gripping profiles are positioned on either side of the groove, with their apex facing the ski front, and the curve ends facing the ski rear. The gripping profiles are positioned in some parallel to each other in the longitudinal direction of the ski. The surface area between two edges within a row rises towards the rear. The facing curve ends (27, 28) of two edges (23) neighbouring each other in transverse direction and belonging to one of two alternate rows (25, 26), merge into each other. These curve ends end together at the apex (29) of an edge (21) of the row (22) positioned between two mentioned rows.
