A controlled rectifier is used in a half wave rectification system, and the rectifier has a transformer for separation of the input from the output. There is a pulse-width controlled switching transistor (Ts) which is shunted by a capacitor (Cp) in series with a rectifier (D3) connected in parallel with a resistor (R1). The amplitude of demagnetisation voltage is greater when the input voltage is low than when it is high. The primary of the transformer (T1) is shunted by a capacitor (C1) and the secondary is shunted by a rectifier (D2) and a capacitor (C2).
