The anti-icing equipment for aircraft aerodynamic sufaces, esp. horizontal control surfaces, is an aerofoil (4) running the full length of the surface (2), mounted parallel to it on struts (12) projecting forwards from it's leading edge (5). The aerofiol's chord (8) is 3-8% of the main surface chord and inclined to the plane (10) of the latter at between 30 and 60 deg. (9). More of the aerofoil is below the main surface centre-line than above it. The gap (11) between aerofoil nose and main surfacae leading edge (5) is 1-3% of the latter's chord. The aerofoil's shape causes airflow acceleration over the main surface leading edge, discouraging icing, without affecting aerodynamic characteristics.
