The suspension track for a mine locomotive incorporates a centre rail-suspended section, with drive assembly. The leading driver's cabin is fitted with a height scanner controlling the extent of ground clearance relative to obstacles. The scanner is linked to an emergency brake mechanism control unit, so that brake closure is immediately and automatically induced by the scanner in the event of danger. Such scanners may be fitted to both cabins, pref. on the outside end, suspended to swivel along the track.
