The system is for stockpiling and discharging material in bulk, particularly raw coal to be washed. The material is discharged from the top into an oblong bunker, and extracted from it by a machine travelling in the lengthwise direction and delivering through aslot along the side. The material is delivered by the feed conveyor (2) onto one or more lengthwise piles with free end faces. It is discharged by a machine (13) inside the bunker (1), removing it from the end face and transporting it through a lateral slot (13) at the bottom. The material may be delivered into the bunker alternately towards opposite ends, one pile being built up while the other is being discharged.
