A method is given for producing blue dyie components (Resoblue) which is used esp. to determine allose (a 1,3-beta-glycoside-linked glucose carbohydrate) and offer early diagnosis of potato leaf virus infections which produce this carbohydrate as a sec. product. 4.8 M resorcinol is reacted with 0.25M ammonia and 1-1.2% H2O2 in water for 6.8-7 days at 25 degrees C. The pref. concn. ratios are 4.8M: Zn: 4.5% respectively when a reaction time of only 5 hrs. at 25 degrees C. is required.
