A remote control target locator for aircraft or missiles, uses a transmitter/receiver aerial linked to an on-board computer. The aerial (2) located in the nose (1) transmits signals over a rotating elliptical scanning field. Echo signals are received from the target (2) and sum (2.1) and difference (2.2) signals are amplified (6, 1, 6.2). The ratio of these signals is generated (7) and comparator stages relate the ratio to a reference provided by a gyro system (8). Positional data is generated by an on-board computer (10). Coordinate position data and rates of motion are determined by reference to the frequency of the transmitted pulses dictated by a signal generator (12).
