Large radioactive power station plant dismantling - using mobile equipment in containers for cutting, smelting, crushing and packaging contaminated components

Parent patent describes a method of dismantling and making safe activated and/or contaminated components of a nuclear power plant by pretreatment and treatment aimed at reducing the vol. occupied by the components. Methods used comprises (a) cutting, machining, and packaging etc.; (b) the same, followed by deep-freezing of the components and further disintegration; (c) the same followed by smelting. In this addn. the treatment of the contaminated and radioactive components is carried out in mobile, transportable containers which can be coupled together in various combinations. These containers are housed in a bunker-like building which can be extended to the desired size. Pref. the bunker-like building is connected to the main containment building of the reactor plant by means of the principal lock. The method enables dismantling to be carried out economically making use of expensive equipment which can be then removed and used on a new site. The containers can be stored at the site for an indefinite period or removed together with their contents.
