The magnet is intended for tape transport drive systems in tape recorders. The armature is attracted by the magnet and it is returned to its initial position by resetting means. The armature (7) is provided with a damping plate (13) on its front side, which, when the armature returns to its rest position, hits a damping mass (8) with a plate (15) in front of it. After having travelled an adjustable distance, the mass (8) hits a damping ring (9). Oscillations of the armature are rapidly damped out.
