Synthetic resin adhesives contain usual modifying, reinforcing or colouring additives, with addn. of 0.1-10% water-soluble corrosion inhibitors of passivating and alkalising type, esp. alkali metal nitrites, carbonates, phosphates and hexavalent Cr salts (chromates). The inhibitor is pref. added as an amorphous silica or active carbon black carrier. The adhesives are e.g. based on epoxy resins with polyamine or polyamino-amide hardeners. Loss of bond strength due to penetration of water into the adhesive or the adhesive-substrate interlayer, when exposed to high humidities or direct contact with water, is prevented.
