Prodn. of plant growth medium comprises layered composting of 70-90 wt.% vegetable material, organic kitchen waste etc., the remainder being mineral components, e.g. clay, sand, lime etc. Each layer is treated with a composting accelerator consisting of a thinned mixt. of Achillea millefolium, Urtica dioica and opt. Matricaria chamomilla, Taraxacum officinale, Valeriana officinalis, oak bark and/or honey. This is spread in a wt. ratio of 1:103-105 with a powdered argillaceous mineral (I) and/or the same amt. of diatomaceous earth and with 1-3 kg/m2 of compost. (I) is pref. bentonite, attapulgite or montmorillonite.
