Linear distortion evaluator for TV signal - forms specified time integral of evaluation functions prod. to give measure of signal quality

The linear distortion evaluator, for a television signal, derives a quality or error criterion from the behaviour of a transmitted test signal. The criterion is obtained from the magnitude of the time integral of the product of a power (the square) of a second evaluation function (w(t)) with a power (the square) of the magnitude of the convolution product. The convolution product is formed by multiplying a first evaluation function (g(t)) with the frequency deviation (e(t)) in a given frequency range. A comparator (3) compares a reference (4) with the t.v. signal to give the (e(t)) function, which is then filtered (5) to give the convolution product. The product is then multiplied with the second evaluation function and the result squared (8) and integrated (9).
