In cutting a velvet fabric, =1 cutting arms are mounted in parallel to suspend and reciprocate a cutting head over the cutting point. Each cutting arm has a semi-automatic cutting blade, with a protective housing, which can be operated manually or (electro-)mechanically. There are specific components to give manual holding, control and cutting; to engage and regulate the cutting resistance in the cutting mode; to monitor the cutting resistance; to disengage; to give operating safety; and to catch the unit. The design allows the velvet cutting process to be monitored and controlled to prevent the cutting arm from making unwanted cutting actions.
