The multi-purpose table is provided with a multi-sectioned table top wherein each section (2, 3, 4, 5) is connected on the underneath to at least one displaceable guide member of a rectilinear guide (10, 10') which comprises a fixed guide attached to the table frame and a displaceable guide and is mounted at an angle between 30 deg. and 60 deg. to the horizontal. These rectilinear guides diverge outwards from the centre of the table top and the table top sections (2, 3, 4, 5) which can be adjusted and secured independently of each other form a cohesive surface in their lowest position.
