Ceramic gas burner for a blast heater has a fuel gas inlet pipe and an ar inlet pipe. One (a) of the pipes has its outlet in the combustion shaft of the regenerative heater, the other pipe (b) being made of refractory and passing through pipe (a); pipe (b) has openings through which gas or air can enter pipe (a). Openings are pref. aligned in axial rows along =1 diametrical planes of pipes (b), which is pref. located at 90 degrees to the vertical pipe (a); and screens contg. slotted holes are pref. driven manually or by motor to adjust the size of the openings (b). Arrangement is of low height and suitable for hot blast stoves used with blast furnaces.
