The rising wind sifter used for separating particle material such as wood chips includes an oscillating table (11) loaded from a material supply means and at least one sifting shaft (18) fed from the table which together form one unit which can be set in motion by a common oscillating drive wherein the shaft has an inlet opening (17) and an associated distributing member which is designed as a fork (25) of min. flow resistance which distributes the material over the entire cross-sectional area of the shaft (18). This fork (25) has several thin tines (26), pref. of circular cross-section, which are set at intervals from each other and with their free ends pref. extend particularly up to the opposite shaft wall (23). Since the material to be sifted is spread out evenly over the entire shaft the sifting air current can flow through without any resistance which prevents undue wear on the lining of the shaft walls.
