The dielectric aerial consists of a dielectric element which is symmetrical about an axis and with a casing enclosing several metallic conducting strips. The aerial is used for microwave transmission and reception with medium gain. It can form part of an array, or used by itself or as an exciter for reflector aerials. The strips are located only close to the feed of the aerial. The width of each strip is considerably below the wavelength in free space. The circumference is considerably above the wavelength in free space. The dielectric body is in th eform of a tube, a stem, a cylinder or a cone. It is fed from a waveguide with a circular cross section or from a dipole.
