Lock on two=part drum lid of peripherally loaded washing machine - with bar engaging in bearing blocks at edges of loading opening

Lock for two-part drum lid over peripheral loading opening of washing machine comprises upper and lower overlapping lid sections which are wider than the loading opening, resting on the longitudinal edges, of the loading opening. The lid sections are connected to the drum by hinges parallel to the drum axis, and biased by springs away from the opening. At the edge of the upper lid section overlapping the lower lid section is pivotably connected a locking bar of which the ends engage resiliently in bearing blocks of the longitudinal edges in the closed position of the lid. The locking bar forms a handle for releasing the lock. The lock thus does not require additional protector strips along the edges of the opening or lid sections.
