Coupling device for suspending large capacity containers from lorries or tippers includes a coupling link attached to a chain or wire rope. The side walls of the large capacity containers are fitted with bolts for engaging the coupling links. The bolts are provided with an enlarged head which is positioned a predetermined minimum distance from corresponding side wall. The coupling link is a hook or an eye and is provided with two sections (7, 8) which are joined together to form an inserting opening. The inserting opening is opened or closed by a pivotably mounted locking pawl. The largest width of the opposite positioned sections (7, 8) of the coupling link and a curved part (6) joining the sections (7, 8) as well as the largest width of the locking pawl (2) are smaller than the pre-determined minimum distance (E) of the bolt head from the container wall.
