The self loading container, or skip lorry, has telescopic sliders which drive the container out over the rear of the lorry. The front end of the slider is pivoted (9) so that when extended the slides drop to the ground to form a slope. A claw (22) at the end of the slides grips the front of the container to pull it up the slope. The lorry can transfer the load in a confined headroom, without any special lifting gear.
