The one-way electronic switch is designed to reduce power losses when switched on and to withstand higher reverse voltages when switched off. A linear or current-dependent inductance is connected into the current-carrying path of the switch to limit the rate of rise of the switch's current at switch on. This inductance draws little or no current once the switch is on and stable. In certain configurations the main current path is shunted by a diode and capacitor circuit.
