The ball-cock has a ball mounted on a vertical actuating spindle, and a ball seal on the inlet side. The base of the outlet is at a lower level than that of the inlet and after the seal there is no portion of the base extending in the direction of the outlet that is higher than the preceding one. It can slope downwards from the seal towards the outlet initially and then run horizontally. The union flanges can be of round cylindrical section, and centre line of the outlet one being offset downwards in relation to that of the inlet one. The ball can have a seal between it and the housing only on the inlet side.
