A wedge or truncated cone shaped former (3) encloses the end of the anchored tension member (1). The former (3) has holes (7) permitting the mortar to flow during casting from inside the former into the cylindrical cavity (4) of the anchorage. The outside surface of the former (3) has a coating to prevent adhesion, permitting small relative movement between the former and its surrounding mortar. This system permits greater use to be made of the properties of the anchorage material, e.g its strength in compression, thus achieving greater anchor strength.
