Substd. 1,2-diamino-2-imidazolines of formula (I) and their physiologically acceptable acid addition salts are new. In the formula, where R' and R2 are each H, halogen, CF3, or 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy; X and O or S; R3 when X = O or H, alkyl, aryl, alkoxy, amino, alkylamino, allylamino, arylamino or -NH(CH2)naryl; R3 when X = S is (alkyl)-amino, allylamino, arylamino or -NH(CH2)naryl; the aryl gps. are phenyl or naphthyl, each opt. substd. by one or more halogen or alkyl gps. and the alkyl gps. are all opt. branched and contain 1-4C; and n in combination with an opt. branched hydrocarbon residue is 1, 2 or 3. (I) have pharmacological properties esp. (I) lower blood pressure. (I) may be used orally and have low toxicity; they can be used to treat chronic high blood pressure. Some (I) also have diuretic properties.
