Sea water desalination plant - with distillation unit preceded by precipitation tanks and followed by alkali electrolysis plant

A plant for the production of drinking water and raw materials from seawater in a distillation section includes, preceding the latter, a precipitating basin and after it an alkali electrolysis section where the salt is split into chlorine and caustic soda. A part of the caustic soda is recycled to the precipitating basin. The installation is independent of all bought-out chemical additives. The excellent solubility of the sodium salts enables the concentration rate of the seawater to be stepped up from 2 to 5:1. Uranium traces are sepd. from the obtd. sludge in the electrolysis tank. The sludge produced can be used in the mfr. of cement. The plant is most economically operated in conjunction with a nuclear power station.
