Centring of optical fibre in plug connection - employs standard detector picking up stray light at end of fibre which is impeded by opaque disc

The polished fibre glued into a glass capillary tube is mounted loosely in a cylinder which is placed in an adjusting device. The free end of the fibre is exposed to light. At the other end, a round opaque disc (P1) and centred in relation to the cylinder is introduced into the emerging cone of light. The light radiating beyond the disc is received by the standard detector and the optical fibre is simultaneously shifted in its sleeve until the light received is at the minimum. At this juncture, the glass capillary tube with the sleeve is fixed in this position.
