The vehicle passenger protective device has a head restraint bolster pad which is automatically movet into a catch position during a collision. The bolster is moved by an adjusting member into an operative position in front of the windscreen. The bolster is locked in an inoperative position by a locking member, which released during an impact force. When at rest, the adjusting member is pretensioned in the direction of the active position. The bolster consists of upper and lower actions, the upper section being formed as sun visor. The lower section is recessed into the dashboard.
