The washing drying shield has a standpipe on which are mounted two sleeves on which the frame bars hinge. The lower sleeve is slid upwards by means of a rope reeved round a pulley on it, and prevented from downward movement by a locking mechanism with a clamping lever, which can be released by hand for lowering. The rope passes between the clamping lever and an abutment on the lower sleeve, and is gripped between them. The abutment can be closed to the top end of the sleeve, and the pulley close to the bottom end. The design allows the rope, which is the part most subject to wear, to be easily replaced when necessary.
