Cement calcining plant - in which aq. raw material slurry is dewatered, pelletised, and fed through calciner to sintering furnace

Parent Patent describes the calcining and sintering of pellets, in which the pellets flow downwards as a bed through a vertical calciner contg. an axial burner providing a descending stream of combustion gases; and the calcined pellets then flow into a rotary drum furnace from which exhaust gases provide additional heat in the calciner. In this Addn., the slurry made from water and raw material flour is partly dewatered to form cake, which is pelletised and fed to the calciner. Coal-dust or -slurry may be added to the raw material, and dust may be added during pelletizing to increase pellet strength. The pref. plant includes presses using a vacuum to remove excess water from the slurry, and a screw feeder driving the cakes to a pelletizing dish. Used for mfr. of cement clinker. Partial removal of the water reduces fuel consumption in the furnaces.
