An auxiliary drive for difficult mining shafts is for a seam working driving gallery machine, esp. a fractional cutting machines. Each side of the working machine is fitted with an hydraulic cylinder. Via a cross-link, one end of each cylinder is fixed to the rear portion of the working machine, while its other end is fixed to a settable guide rail which can be driven along a chain strand. The guide rail is forced against at least two construction rails. The chain strand (4) is fixed by a shackle (9). Blocking bolts are provided so that the chain strand can be adjusted and retained in the chain lock (3) of the guide rail (1).
