Automatic search program for preselected sound sections in tape - uses sound tape with marking between end of one and beginning of next sound section

The marking on the magnetic tape produces a marking pulse when a scanner moves past it. It causes reversal of the direction of movement and then, when it occurs again, it causes the tape finally to stop. In the searching operation the marking is made to oscillate round the scanner and the marking pulse causes momentary reversal of the direction of movement of the tape. During oscillation in the alternating braking and accelerating phases an interruption of acceleration occurs in the latter and the set is switched to stop or reverse spool direction for a certain time. In a switch to reverse spool direction the time interval is fixed so that the direction of movement of the tape is not changed.
