An automatic cashier system for supermarket goods allows all identification and price data to be entered into a central processing unit. The system includes a facility for changes in price to be quickly displayed for the benefit of the purchaser. The articles are located in a data reading station and the information displayed on a unit that is identified by display of the product code (14). Unit price (10) is displayed together with total price (9). An address code (15) is read to identify the unit. All data is transmitted to the central processor.
